Piles of Garbage in the East Flood Canal Semarang
Nasional indonesia. Semarang - Floods that have occurred in Semarang lately in addition to being caused by high rainfall it was also caused by garbage which often inhibits the flow of water. Even the flow of the Banjir Kanal Timur Semarang river was also hampered by the accumulated garbage.
The accumulated rubbish is under the Kaligawe bridge which makes a puddle impact in the village of Sawah Besar or around the Banjir Kanal Timur. The most severe condition occurred last week, Saturday, December 8, 2018.
The region every rainy season is indeed a flood customer if you can get water from the upper area. But this year the normalization project has begun with a progress of 55 percent and floods should have been overcome.
Last week heavy rain fell and water overflowed despite normalization. It turned out that a pile of rubbish under the Kaligawe bridge caused it. Semarang City Government and Central Java Provincial Government coordinate to overcome them.
On Friday, heavy rains returned to the city of Semarang and made the heads of the regions worried, including the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, who reviewed the Kaligawe bridge at night.
Seeing that there is still garbage piled up, he asks the officers to be on standby if there is garbage starting to accumulate immediately. If you need a night shift, you can take action as soon as possible.
"Now the rain intensity is high. So you have to catch up with the rain. Don't wait for the afternoon, if you need a night shift to transport all the rubbish in this location because if it is disturbed by traffic flow," Ganjar said on Saturday (15 / 12/2018).
The Mayor of Semarang, Hendrar Prihadi, said that the recent floods in Kaligawe in addition to rubbish were also the result of the narrowing of the Grace River. So that in the long run the government will curb several buildings on the banks of the Tenggang River and at the top of the river East Flood Canal.
"In 2019 we asked the consultant to identify how many houses were on the banks that we would order. Besides the river, the occupancy limits on the upper East Flood Canal would also be relocated. There were residents who intentionally dumped garbage into the BKT river even though some were carried away," he explained .
Hendrar also emphasized the acceleration of the normalization of the East Banjir Kanal river. Because in addition to overcoming floods, the project also beautifies the city. "Especially BKT normalization I really hope for an acceleration in the process," Hendrar said.
Deputy Mayor of Semarang, Hevearita Gunaryanto Rahayu, added that the garbage in the East Flood Canal this time is indeed quite severe because in addition to tree branches and plastic waste, there are also cabinets, mattresses and chairs.
"It's like a supermarket, there are even water reservoirs. After last week's runoff, 3 days of garbage was taken up to 250 m2," Hevearita told AFP.
"As long as there is still garbage, it is always dredged, I ask the district head and the village head to monitor it, as soon as there is garbage covering the bridge, the DPU will take it with amphibos," he added.
From the observation, there is only a small amount of garbage under the Kaligawe bridge and some are left behind. Most of the retarding waste has been dredged and thrown away.
Waste does not only have an impact around the East Flood Canal, even the newly repaired channel at Jalan Supriyadi is blocked by garbage so that water overflows into the road. "Jalan Supriyadi yesterday aside from high rainfall due to garbage," Hevearita said.
The regional government also hopes that the community will help in minimizing anticipation efforts by not littering.
